Sweet Sesame Chicken | Healthy Choice

“Healthy Choice Sweet Sesame Chicken is paired perfectly with white rice, snow peas and carrots. Try this unforgettable, quick healthy meal tonight.”

There are reviews at the linked-to site. A few were average with most at one extreme or the other. Some folks rate the meal highly while others drag it through the mud, bashing it heartily.

A week or so ago I had a different style of this meal. It was chicken-based with a Chinese-food type seasoning. I forget which one it was. When I see it in the store I will buy it again and review it on this blog. I liked it, much more than this Sweet Sesame Chicken offering.

Here’s my review of this easily-prepared quick meal. I like the 300-calories aspect. A light eater will find the meal portion ample. I could eat two with ease if I desired. I microwaved the frozen meal for 5 minutes 30 seconds using my cheap low-power small ten-year-old microwave. I pulled off the plastic film, lifted the part of the container holding the food and dumped the food into the part of the container holding the food-holding part of the plastic tub into the larger part holding the sauce. Plop. Stir it around to coat the vittles with the sauce and eat from the large part of the container. It is nice having only a spoon to wash. Use a plastic spork from a fast-food joint and there are no dishes to do.

The rice is likely responsible for the 43-grams of carbohydrates. I limit carbs so these meals will be but an occasional meal for me. Ease of preparation and but one to no dishes to do is a plus. A negative is the lack of taste. Compared to the other Healthy Choice Chinese-style Cafe Steamer meal that was boldly tasty with a satisfying yumminess this meal was bland. Acceptable but nothing happened within my eating essence to create a clamor shouting “Gotta’ eat this stuff again!!!”

A pleasant delight was the lack of gristle in any of the few small chicken chunks. I hate gristle!!! Gristle sucks. If I ever run for president part of my campaign will be to end the vile intrusion of gristle into the meals of good, law-abiding USA citizens. Save the gristle for felons in prison and illegal alien invaders awaiting deportation in various camps scattered across the USA.

One of the reviews at the Web site mentioned excess sweetness. Maybe the ConAgra corporation has altered the recipe since that review was written. I did not detect much if any sweetness. I admit that I am a drug addict and that may have a negative effect upon my taste buds and how my brain interprets the input from those nodules embedded within and upon my tongue. The craving for nicotine provided by those mini-cigars I smoke is accompanied, according to some learned folks, with a diminishing of the ability to taste foods. Not a total destruction of tasting ability, however. Perhaps the loss lowered my ability to taste sweetness. However, with truly sweet stuff I can detect that. Perhaps the minor loss prevents me from detecting what others declare is excessive sweetness but… maybe those folks are a bunch of nut cases or have a brain tumor exerting pressure upon the taste area of the brain that causes sweetness to be detected when it doesn’t exist or some other reason. I do not know. Mere wild conjecturing.

Wrapping this up… will not buy Sweet Sesame Chicken but will definitely try that other style again and will try other offerings in the Cafe Steamers product line since though I will not buy this style again it was not repulsive in any way as my own cooking too often is.
