Sunday is National Chocolate Cake Day, celebrate with ‘the best chocolate cake ever’

“Sunday, January 27 is National Chocolate Cake Day, so gorge away. Chocolate cake is a relatively new invention. Chocolate was mainly consumed as a drink until the 1830’s to 1840’s. Yes, before then chocolate cake was not widely eaten.”

Does chocolate cake require chocolate-flavored icing or can you have the cake chocolate with the icing any flavor desired? Does it matter? Purists will assuredly demand chocolate throughout. I am not picky. Give me the cake and it is eaten as long as it is not repulsive tasting.

Why is there even a National Chocolate Cake Day? Did the chocolate industry find a willing bored politician with nothing better to do to make a national day of the affair? Perhaps it is a private doing with no government intervention. There IS a LOT of collusion between corporations and government that typically is either not beneficial to the masses of common folks are harms us in many possible ways. Beware the unholy alliance between big business and government at all levels; local, regional, state and federal.

Jumping off the proverbial soapbox we return to chocolate cake. Eat the stuff any day of the year. My favorite icing/frosting/topping whatever you label the stuff is the frosting using that whipped topping in the plastic tub sold at grocery stores. A commonly-used term is “Cool-Whip” though there are many brands and varieties. Flavors can be added to the stuff to add flavor. I like the lightness of the whipped frosting style compared to that overly-sweet sugar-laden thick traditional frosting. When that is on top of my cake slice I scrape it off viewing it as inedible.

Use any frosting you lust for, of course. When inviting me over use the sugar-free Cool-Whip-type frosting. Okay? “Okay.” Good.

There is a chocolate cake recipe at the link. There’s a couple million or more other recipes out there for every imaginable style and variety of chocolate cake. Keep trying recipes until you find one you like. Or, be lazy like me and just buy one already made at the grocery store or the elusive ever-harder-to-find bakery or maybe a local school or church will have a bake sale.
