Sweet & Sour Chicken | Healthy Choice

“Prepare to make your taste buds come alive. Tempura-battered chicken breast is mixed with crisp bell peppers, onions and pineapple. This delicious combination is tossed with a tangy sweet and sour sauce and served over a bed of rice for a meal that is bursting with flavor.”

This is the first Cafe Steamer I ate a couple weeks ago that led to my deciding to review these meals. I made the decision after eating the meal so had to wait until ate another Sweet and Sour Chicken offering before I could do a legitimate review instead of relying upon memory.  So far this is my favorite Cafe Steamer offering solely due to the taste of the sauce. It would be nice if there were vegetables added to the dish to make it a more “complete” meal. The 3 tiny pineapple pieces barely make a dent in the meal and the red and green things are mystery morsels requiring a peek at the ingredients list to ascertain what they are.

From the ingredient list I have determined that the green and red things must be:

“Red And Green Bell Peppers

Bell peppers are widely considered a vegetable, but are technically a fruit. Red Bell Peppers have a sweet, almost fruity taste. Green Bell Peppers have a slightly bitter flavor because they are picked before they have fully matured and are considered “unripened”.”
The sauce overwhelms the taste of the red/green things, for me, anyway, so they may be present for their color to add visual appeal. Some broccoli would be a great addition to improve an already decent meal. In the reviews at the linked-to site are the typical good/bad and in-between reviews. One review mentions wasteful plastic use and ocean pollution. That may be true with Cafe Steamers. I am unsure. Other plastic sources are noted such as fishing lines and nets and straws and other plastic-types. If the plastic bowls can be reused for other in-house purposes that would be a plus. Also, if your areas has plastic recycling that may keep the stuff out of the ecosystem.
390 calories for one meal is okay. Just be careful what you eat alongside this meal if on a diet. 65 grams of carbohydrates is on the high side for me. For that reason I will be forced to eat this dish a mere once every month or two. Uggghhhh. Reality sucks but reality it is. One of the comments mentioned a high sugar content but I do not follow that rating. I avoid sugary stuff on the whole so the occasional sugary main-meal dish is of little concern to me. You may be different. Check the labels and do as you are wont to do regarding these affairs.
The chicken is breaded. Looking back I should have scraped some of the breading off to get a look at the chicken underneath. The little chicken chunks kind of looked like mini chicken nuggets. As with all the other chicken I have eaten with these Cafe Steamers I have not encountered any gristle or other unwanted artifacts.
Okay, eat up!!!!
