The Yummy Chip Steak and it is Easy to Prepare

What Are Chip Steaks?

Keep scrolling down past the intrusive “video of the day” to read all the tasty textual tid-bits.  We learn who invented the chip steak along with when and where. We will be ready for Jeopardy if ever selected to engage in that TV game show.

The chip steak cooks very fast and makes minimal mess to clean up after cooking. A simple recipe is to place the chip steak upon two hunks of toast. Use the condiment of your choice or no condiments… your choice. I use either mayonnaise or mustard depending upon my mood or if I need to watch calories. Mustard doesn’t add to the on-board lard deposits and as I age I use it more often.

Sam’s Club sells the brand below and a bunch of comments from buyers/users about the product may be helpful in some manner:

Steak-EZE® Thin Sliced Sirloin Beef Steak – 42oz

Poking around the Web it appears that some folks and firms/retailers/producers are labeling thin cuts of steaks as chip steaks. True chip steaks are sliced extremely thing and it takes several of these slices piled atop each other to make up one chip steak. While one hunk of beef sliced thin will cook quickly it differs in taste and usability from a true chip steak. Be alert of the difference between a true chip steak and a very thin single slice of beef. Those single slices I saw on the Web appear as if it would take 30 to 40 or more of the very-thin slices used to create one chip steak.

I saw a different brand locally awhile back but forget the name. When I see it again may buy it and try it and return here to rate the stuff. Safeway stores in California back in the 60s and 70s had their own labeled brand that was extremely tasty. I looked on-line a few years back and did not see them offering it any more. Damn. I preferred it to the other brands I have tried.

Unsure if these are real chip steaks:

What appears to be but one slab of beef may actually be several very thin slices pressed together. Typically bought while frozen the chip steak thaws extremely quickly then commences cooking. Memory tells me it was around three-minutes on one side then flip it over and another minute or two until completion.

Here is the most common chip steak offering in my area:

Update time already!!!

Poking through the Web I saw a message board comment that sent a torrent or memories cascading through my brain. After arising off the floor where that torrent sent me I came here to add this: “In California they are also known as minute steaks.”  The commenter was right. I do recall that term being used.
